MTSC News2012 MTSC Special Achievement Awards Ceremony
Trooper Douglas Cropper was recognized for his brave and timely actions in stopping a wrong-way driver on I-295 in Portland just before the Tukey’s Bridge. On June 29, 2012 after pulling over a truck, he saw a car traveling northbound in the southbound lane. Reversing direction to the nearby exit ramp, he maneuvered through traffic on Marginal Way, entered the interstate northbound, turned into the crossover, and positioned his cruiser in the path of the wrong-way driver with only a fraction of a second to spare. Trooper Cropper’s quick thinking helped prevent an imminent head on collision. Pfc. Lisa Bryant was recognized for her courageous and timely actions in providing emergency medical care to Mr. Larry Huff. Pfc. Bryant of Scarborough, Army National Guard medic for the 133rd Engineer Battalion in Gardiner and University of Southern Maine student, was the first on the scene of a crash in Bowdoinham on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Lisa was driving on I-295 in Bowdoinham when the crash occurred. The occupant, 67 year-old Larry Huff, was ejected from the vehicle and not breathing. Bryant had her supplies with her and was able to resuscitate Huff at the scene.
