NEW VIDEO:Cross the Street in My Shoes - Perspective from Blind

Ruth Mlotek of the Iris Network had shared some video segments at last October’s MTSC meeting on issues people with vision loss face when walking and crossing streets on busy urban roads. The raw footage featured different individuals narrating on-the-go as they navigated busy street crossings. Those scenes provided MTSC members a keen awareness of the safety issues that face people who are visually impaired – and impacted how we thought about driving and the roadsharing issues that include pedestrians, particularly those with visual impairments. Ruth Mlotek and Duane Brunell agreed that this video should be shared more widely but it would first need to be distilled down to a shorter format. Ruth enlisted the help of Caitlyn Blodget, an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired who videoed the original material, and together we determined what footage told the best story. That editing has now been completed by Caitlyn and the video flows well as you hear and see what each individual is contemplating as they are about to step off the curb. The finished DVD contains 4 individual narrated segments and is about 7 minutes in length. This video has just been added to the MTSC website at : http://www.themtsc.org/safety-resources/videos.php
